This evening I ventured out to check on my tomato plants. See, when I planted them I had 9 tomato cages but 36 tomato plants, so for 27 of them I pounded T-posts in the ground and weaved bailing twine back and forth between them to provide support for the plants. I carefully fixed each branch so that they didn't touch the ground. Now it seems that every time I go out there I find some branches that are dead set on dragging the earth and contracting diseases so that they can corrupt and kill the whole plant. I'm sure that's not their intention, I imagine it is just easier to drag along and lay in the dirt than to hang onto the support provided. Regardless of their intent the result is the same. After repeated attempts on my part to train them to stay in contact with the support system, I finally have no choice but to cut them off in order to save the rest of the plant. I'm reminded of the sermon on the mount when Jesus said, " And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body... " Matthew 5:30
I think sometimes, maybe with out realizing it, I've clung to the things of this earth and it has caused a lot of sorrow for myself and others. I'm asking God to please help me to cling to Him and the support system He's provided which will lift me above the blight of this earth and raise me up to the heavens.
