Son Beams

We can all remember times in our life when darkness gathered about us, can't we?   When cold winds of a stormy night blew right through us chilling our bones and gripping our heart with it's icy fingers.  On such nights thick black clouds obscure even the faintest light of the moon making progress slow and dangerous if we make any at all.  The path that once seemed mildly rugged now trips us at every step and we reel and stagger about like one drunken with much wine.  Eerie noises pierce the shadows as nocturnal birds of prey settle upon their victims and we curl into a defensive ball as a heavy blanket of fear wraps itself about us.

We can also look back on those dark nights and remember what brought us through them.  Perhaps the warmth and comfort of a dog who pushed against our side and silently awaited the dawn with us.  Or maybe a friend joined us in the darkness with umbrella and  flash light in hand and walked with us until the darkness had past.  Whatever the circumstance something got us through that storm and we are stronger for it.

Often times our hearts have been broken and tears have washed our eyes and reddened our noises.  We know what it means to be lost and alone and we know the impact of a compassionate smile or helping hand.  God is faithful to send us light in even the darkest night.

These experiences help train us to be Son beams,  rays of light sent out by God to light the path of those who need it.  The question is are we willing to be a Son beam?  Are we willing to take the time, to expend the effort?

I pray that God will make us all Son beams for Him.  Lets step out of our comfort zones, reach out to others and make a difference large or small.
