Sand Crane Migration

12/05/08

Today as Robbie and I were splitting wood I heard a strange noise above me. I looked up to see a huge "V" of Sand Cranes soaring across the sky. We both stopped and watched them, such beauty is hard to ignore. They were flying in harmony with perfect precision. I began to wonder how they decided who would take the lead. Just as this thought was tumbling around in my head they began to breakup and change form, just slightly, it looked as though a wave rolled through them and the leader was replaced and dropped back to the rear. Robbie said, "look they are rotating and giving the leader a rest break." It actually brought tears to my eyes as I realized that each member of that soaring team was taking his turn in the hardest, most tiring position. Each one was concerned for his buddies and chose to work together for the good of the whole group. How amazing, to see Gods principles at work in His creation. Then I stopped to consider... that same principle was just now playing out in my life, for my sister, who doesn't have a wood stove, was spending her day off helping me cut, gather, split, and stack wood for mine.

What a wonderful world this would be if more people would allow God to work through them. If they would step up and take the lead in hard tasks and be willing to move aside and be replaced by a team member. If each of God's human children would act as a family, and put others first, like His creatures in nature do, can you imagine how much better all of our lives would be? May God help us all to be team players in His family.
